Description

Title: A Concordance to the Bible of the Last Translation

Author & Illustrator: Clement Cotton

Publisher: T. Downs and R. Young

Date & Edition: 1631 and 1693 noted on title page

Binding: Hardback suede leather

Number of Pages: not numbered

Also included are an 1870 invitation to attend “the celebration of the Fourth of July and the opening of Eden Park” in Cincinnati; and various leaves that were pressed in the pages.

Dimensions

10.5"H x 8"L x 2.25"D

Condition

The cover has a chipped spine, cracked/partially broken joint/hinge, discoloration/darkening of the leather, worn-through leather at front bottom corner, and various spots/splotches/scratches. The handwritten label on the front cover is chipped, faded, and spotted though mostly still readable.

The notes to the reader pages are tattered in the bottom right.

The title page appears to have been cut and pasted onto a new page (what might have been an endleaf).

The pastedown in front has writing dating from 1935 and before.

There is very old scribbling in ink, opposite the dedication. The title page has a bit of math calculating the number of years between the book’s publication and “the death of my daddy” (109 years; 1802-1693).

Writing on a front endleaf was scribbled out a long time ago. Another endleaf is no longer connected to the binding.

There are various notes in the margins throughout, primarily additions to the concordance.

Some pen ink splotches obscure some words in the “I,” “L,” “P,” “R,” sections.

Two pages in “S” section are partially stuck together. No other pages are stuck.

Several pages in the front, and in the back of the book show discoloration from long ago moisture exposure.

Various pages throughout have small holes (less than ¼”).

Many pages have bent corners at both top and bottom.

Was re-bound at some point; some of the notes in the margins are partially cut off (none of the book’s text), and the binding feels solid.

There are various spots, splotches, and discolored areas throughout the book—but very few words are not legible.

Note: Books may have foxing, yellowing, bumped corners, shelf wear and other condition issues. See photos for overall condition.
