Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Bound in brown leather with raised lettering to the front cover and brown lettering to the spine of the book, the front cover shows an illustration of "The Immortal Babe (Ruth)". There is some light rubbing and edge wear to the spine joints, spine ends and corners of the book cover. The front coverhas several light scratches by the front spine joint that look like fingernails grabbed & pulled a bit too hard. The text pages are clean & bright. Endpapers are fully illustrated in black and white. Overall, a nice clean, solid, and bright copy. This book covers the history of American sports from the beginning of European exploration to 1952. Chapters are: Captain mith to General Grant 1607-1870, The Gas-Lit Era 1871-1899, The Rise of Sports 1900-1918, The Golden Age 1919-1930, and, Sports for Everybody 1931-1952. Some of the games include: Lacrosse, Gander Pulling, Golf, Gouging, Animal Baiting, Boxing, Gymnastics, Billiards, and more. The more classic games, Football, Baseball, basketball, ,etc. get long sections of their own.
