LaChapelle’s photography career began in the 1980s when he began showing his artwork in New York City galleries. His work caught the eye of Andy Warhol, who offered him his first job as a photographer at Interview Magazine. His photographs of celebrities in Interview garnered positive attention, and before long he was shooting for a variety of top editorial publications and creating some of the most memorable advertising campaigns of his generation.
In the afterword to this dizzying collection of his photographs, fashion and celebrity photographer LaChapelle says: "If there's an exhibitionist left who wants his or her picture taken, I'll be there." His pictures of the famous and not-so-famous in outrageous poses and situations bear this out. Following Truman Capote's dictum that "good taste is the death of art," he shoots Faye Dunaway flat on her back on top of a limousine, Tom Jones hanging off a truck in a pink cat suit, a porn star in Times Square on an overstuffed chair surrounded by balloons, naked people piled up in Plexiglas boxes and other bizarre scenes, all in garish colors. It's a matter of pride with LaChapelle that the magazines that bought his pictures -- Details, Paris Vogue, The Face, Vanity Fair -- loved his craziness, and he and his subjects wallow in it. Like children trashing a grownups' party, they smash the furniture, scatter the debris and smear everyone with Reddi Whip and cake frosting, giggling all the while, creating swirls of eye candy that will delight those who cherish style and equate surface and substance. This celebration of high camp comes packaged in a gaudy box designed by Japanese graphic artist Tadanori Yokoo.

SHIPPING

We mainly ship via USPS Priority Mail and our rates are based on their rates. Due to the odd dimensions of certain items, USPS charges more for shipping Priority Mail and that is calculated into the shipping weight.

Items may be combined for shipping when the following criteria are present:
1. The items are from the same selling Goodwill.
2. The items close within the same week.
3. You have not already paid for any of the items.
4. The combined weight does not exceed 20 pounds and package size cannot exceed 12" X 12" X 12". Dimensional Weight rates may apply to larger item packages.

If your auction items meet the above criteria, the site will prompt automatically to combine all available orders during the payment process.   Qualifying media items (books without advertising, CDs, DVDs) will ship at Media Mail Rate. Media-Mail items can be combined with non-Media items at the higher shipping cost of Priority Mail. Parcel Post shipping and Flat Rate boxes are available upon request. If you would like items sent Parcel Post, that option will take longer to get to you and is less secure of a shipping method due to the way it is handled by USPS.

Return Policy: All items are sold AS-IS and are non-refundable. The only exceptions are in the case of damage during shipment or gross misrepresentation. Any return must have prior approval from Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey. A request for return must be submitted within 5 days of receipt of purchase. Shipping and handling costs are not refundable.
